Strong management of the economy, rich natural resources and a competitive business environment have made Ghana one of the best economic performers in Africa. The agriculture and service sectors combined account for approximately 75 percent of the nation’s GDP and employ a majority of the national workforce. Despite many economic successes in Ghana, less than a third of the population has an account at a formal financial institution, and a significant portion still lives below the poverty line.
Since first providing support to African microfinance institutions in 2000, Accion has expanded to serve several countries in Africa and established a permanent presence through our hub office in Accra, Ghana.
