Vision and Strategy

Our Mission

Our mission is to give people the financial tools they need to improve their lives.

Our Vision

Our vision is to build a financially inclusive world with access to economic opportunity for all.

Our Belief

We believe in a financially inclusive world – one in which every individual accesses, uses, and benefits from a full range of high-quality, affordable financial services. When financially included, every person can capitalize on their capability and drive to achieve real economic gains – and build brighter futures for themselves and their families.

Our Strategy

1. We find and grow seed-stage startups that meet the needs of the underserved

  • Accion’s seed-stage impact investment initiative, Accion Venture Lab, provides capital and support to startups that harness innovation to drive financial inclusion.
  • Accion Venture Lab focuses on disruptive early companies that can spur innovation while improving the quality and lowering the costs of financial services for those who have been left out.
  • Its more than 30 portfolio companies use alternative data, business model innovation, blockchain, digital identification, social media, machine learning, and other emerging technologies to provide people and businesses with financial services.

2. We help innovative yet established financial service providers maximize their impact

  • Accion is the anchor investor, general partner, and sponsor of the first global fintech fund for the underserved: the Accion Frontier Inclusion Fund, managed by Quona Capital.
  • The Fund catalyzes fintech innovations that can radically improve the quality and availability of financial services for the underserved.
  • Accion’s Global Advisory Solutions uses decades of strategic and operational expertise and helps microfinance institutions use technology to reach more clients with better products.

3. We protect and empower clients as well as challenge and engage the financial inclusion industry

  • The Center for Financial Inclusion (CFI) at Accion uses advocacy, research, and insights to push industry stakeholders to overcome obstacles to financial inclusion.
  • The CFI examines key financial inclusion questions, including financial health, the efficacy of government-to-person transfers, and the technologies enabling digital financial services.
  • The Smart Campaign, the world’s first global financial consumer protection standard, is one of the CFI’s signature initiatives and helps protect tens of millions of microfinance clients.
